Don't Watch, Don't Listen, Don't Speak
This Punk is inspired by CryptoPunk #8708 and artworks of Rozanova. SupremePunk #020 describes the events of 2020 that had a strong impact not only on the author's life, but on all the people of the world. The painting contains the personal experiences of the author because of the difficulties he faced. The pandemic has affected the lives of everyone around the world. This SupremePunk is not about the past and the future, not about something abstract but about the present. The Punk blends into the background and has no bright colors or shapes. This picture is about today's man - inconspicuous, gray and indistinguishable from others. This Punk is not about an individual but about a whole mass of people. This is how the state views the individual. In crisis situations, the life of the individual is not important to the system, but only the preservation of its stability.

On March 11, the World Health Organization announced that the COVID-19 outbreak has become a pandemic. This Punk is a witness to all the changes that have forever changed our lifestyles and habits. He is unstable. Its forms are held together but can collapse at any moment. It represents the inner state of the individual and the world that is constantly changing amidst discomfort and profound change. This Punk does not know what will happen next and does not even know what will happen tomorrow. The length of time spent in quarantine, the lack of opportunities to spend vacations in nature, the lack of opportunities to see loved ones has led to the fact that people have withdrawn from each other and socialization has moved into the background and changed its appearance as such.

The symbol of this punk and this time is the medical mask. It is an attribute that has only recently appeared in everyone's life, but it has taken hold. This symbol is associated with the polarization of society, anti-globalization, new sanctions and restrictions and violations of human rights. Many people have had to survive the economic shutdown. Due to the strict quarantine regime due to the coronavirus pandemic, a trend of negative attitudes toward government measures has emerged on the scale of entire states. In this context, unauthorized protests against strict quarantine measures took place in a number of states and regions.
In 2020, another event happened that influenced the consciousness and worldview of the author. It contains pains and worries for the family, the country and the future of people. The creator of this SupremePunk was born and spent his entire childhood in Belarus. His whole family and relatives live in Minsk, so the protests in Belarus had a strong influence on him. On August 9, elections were held in Belarus, during which Alexander Lukashenko was elected for the sixth time as President of Belarus, with about 80% of the votes, according to the Central Election Commission, controlled by him . However, immediately after the announcement of the preliminary election results, mass protests broke out in the country. The protesters, relying on numerous testimonies and their own partial counting, say that the results were grossly falsified.
Protest actions in Minsk (Belarus), August 16
Mass protests erupted again in Minsk and other cities across the country. The demonstration in the capital city, which was called "March of Heroes" this time, attempted to reach one of the presidential residences, but was stopped by the police. The police used stun grenades to disperse the demonstration in the settlement. However, the law enforcement agencies deny these allegations. The Belarusian security forces usually do not try to disperse large protests from the beginning, but begin to pursue, beat and detain protesters when they disperse in small groups after the rally. The beatings and detentions involve people without identifying insignia and often even without uniforms, but wearing balaclavas and carrying weapons.

The street demonstrations of the first days were dispersed by the police with tear gas, stun grenades, water cannons and rubber bullets. Uniformed troops were deployed in some towns, using service-issue weapons to deadly effect. According to law enforcement officials, the reaction was justified by provocations and disturbances of public order on the part of the demonstrators. There were strikes at Belarusian state enterprises, demanding an end to torture of detainees, accountability for those responsible, and fair elections.

The most massive protests in the following months were the opposition's Sunday marches in Minsk. Every week women's marches, marches of pensioners and the disabled took place in the capital city. According to the data of human rights defenders, the number of the detained protest participants exceeded 30 thousand. More than 2,300 criminal cases were brought against the political opponents of the authorities. Not a single criminal case was opened against members of the security forces, including those accused of murder.
