Burnt to the Ground
This Punk is inspired by CryptoPunk #4457 and artworks of Kliun. On the morning of August 6, 1945, the American B-29 bomber "Enola Gay" dropped the atomic bomb "Little Boy" equivalent of 13 to 18 kilotons of TNT on Hiroshima, Japan. Three days later, on August 9, 1945, the "Fat Man" atomic bomb, equivalent of 21 kilotons of TNT, was dropped on Nagasaki City by pilot Charles Sweeney, commander of the B-29 "Bockscar" bomber. The total death toll ranged from 90,000 to 166,000 in Hiroshima and 60,000 to 80,000 in Nagasaki. It is to these tragic events that Punk #24 is dedicated.

"My twin brother and I sat down at the table, about to eat dinner, when suddenly we were blinded by a bright flash. Then a strong air wave swept through the house and literally blew it apart. Just then our older brother, a mobilized schoolboy, returned from the factory. The three of us rushed to the bomb shelter and waited for my father, but he never returned. My story may seem unnecessarily brutal, but believe me, what I am telling is far from the worst. A huge number of people were burned alive in their homes, many of those maimed continue to suffer today from keloid scars and other consequences of those explosions".

The white background of the punk refers to the flash of light after the atomic bomb exploded. The red circle in the center describes the incredible heat at the epicenter of the explosion, the resulting fires and horrific burns on people's bodies, as well as the endless amounts of blood spilled.

"After the air raid sirens were cancelled, my 12-year-old sister was full of life when she called out “I’ll see you later!” and left for work. She still hasn’t come back. That’s why I’m always telling my story. Try and imagine. One of your family members, your brother, your sister, full of life telling you “I’ll see you later!”, then just never coming back. Several times a year at sunset the sky is bright red - so much so that red shadows are cast on people's faces. Then I remember the sunset on the day of the bombing. The city was on fire for three days. I hate sunsets. I still can’t forget the eyes of a little girl who clung on to my pants and begged, “Help me, help me…” I couldn’t help, but she was really imploring me. Kneeling in the rubble, begging for my help. Those eyes. I can never forget. I just had to leave her and run".
