A Night in Venice
This Punk is inspired by CryptoPunk #6787 and artworks of Rozanova. SupremePunk #027 is different from the others because it includes Rozanova's main idea - colour as the main object in the picture. As Malevich, who considered colour to be the most important element of Suprematism, Rozanova was resolutely focused on colour. Her painting remained flat, as it actually was, and did not imitate three-dimensionality. Colour interacts with those colours with which it is necessary, it does not depend on the tastes of the public and the artist, it obeys only what Rozanova defined as a real inevitability, which is based exclusively on the objective qualities of colour itself. SupremePunk #027 itself depicts the Venice festivals, their atmosphere - especially the various and precious masks.

SupremePunk #027 is infused with the aesthetics of a Venetian carnival - its colourfulness and festive atmosphere. Venetian carnivals gradually spread across the globe. The main attributes of any carnival were the costumes and masks designed to hide social differences and equalise everyone for the duration of the festivities. The spirit of flirtation and lust, the feeling of total freedom and the anticipation of exciting adventures drew the aristocracy from all over Europe to this masquerade. The fame and popularity of the carnival was so high that even high-ranking people did not consider it shameful to take part in the entertainment incognito. During carnival days, everything was subject to the Venetian mask. They wore masks to go shopping, to theatres and on dates. The mask overruled all standards of behaviour, and on carnival days and nights, when the Catholic Church shyly averted its gaze from the Venetian streets, it was considered bad form not to commit a sin under its veil. The mood of the Venetian carnival was expressed in the painting "Venetian Carnival" by V. Stepievich.
V. Stepievich — "Venetian Carnival", 1879
In their homeland, Venetian masks became so popular that they were worn all the time. It is worth noting that almost all townspeople preferred to hide their faces even without any carnival. There have been cases where people hid under Venetian masks to commit criminal acts. This state of affairs forced the church to restrict the use of Venetian masks. This led to a law issued in Venice in 1608, which stated that men would be sentenced to two years in prison and fined for wearing Venetian masks on an ordinary day, while women would be publicly flogged in the square.
One of the most famous masks was the basis for the creation of SupremePunk #027. Not all masks were for fun and festivities in Venice. The bauta is a mask, which was characterized by the inclusion of an over-prominent nose, a thick supraorbital ridge, a projecting "chin line", and no mouth. The mask's beak-like chin is designed to enable the wearer to talk, eat, and drink without having to remove it, thereby preserving the wearer's anonymity. The bauta had become a standardized society mask and disguise regulated by the Venetian government. It was obligatory to wear it at certain political decision-making events when all citizens were required to act anonymously as peers.

The Medico della peste, with its long beak, is one of the most bizarre and recognizable of the Venetian masks, though it did not start out as a carnival mask at all but as a method of preventing the spread of disease. The striking design originates from 17th-century French physician Charles de Lorme who adopted the mask together with other sanitary precautions while treating plague victims. The mask is often white, consisting of a hollow beak and round eye holes covered with crystal discs, creating a bespectacled effect. They hoped these precautions would prevent them from contracting the disease. The hollow beak allowed for the containment of flowers and other sweet-smelling substances designed to keep away the foul odors that were thought to spread infection. This mask is reflected in the punk, which is beak-shaped. This mask like the Punk itself brings up mixed feelings - from a sense of celebration to fear of death.
