Genesis Creation Narrative
This Punk is inspired by CryptoPunk #9485 and artworks of Chashnik. This Punk represents our own interpretation of Biblical events describing the creation of the world. Here we have chosen to depart from the usual canons of Punk, in which specific thoughts were stated and certain symbols or interpretations of ideas were presented. This work presents a specific chain of chronological events. It is as incomprehensible to us as the very idea of God's existence outside of time and space. On a simple and flat canvas, using the simplest figures, we have tried, with the use of emotion and color, to transport this Punk out of time and gather on it objects and events of absolutely different times and different nature. However, their centered arrangement makes a coherent composition out of them. In the same way the world was created in the Christian Bible - completely different matters at different times (days in our understanding do not correlate with the days of the Bible, since God Himself is timeless) came together from seemingly incompatible into a single whole and something perfect. The creation of the world lasted for six days and in each of those days God created some elements of our world. We decided to divide the creation of the Punk in the same way into six parts, each of which is an interpretation of one of the days of the creation of the world.
The First Day
And God said: 'Let there be light.' And there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good. And God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning.
William Blake — The Ancient of Days, 1794, Copy D
The beginning of the creation of the world represents God's creation of heaven and earth, that is, the angelic world and matter, the foundation of physical existence. But this matter was in emptiness and darkness and only "the Spirit of God hovered over the water" (Gen. 1:2). In these lines there is an indirect reference to the plurality of persons of God, that is, the Holy Trinity. Water is indicated as the primary, life-giving element. It was not our familiar H2O. It was a primordial state of matter, a formless, unstructured mass that had no space yet. And yet it became the basis of the world. On the first day, God created light, separated it from darkness, and called them day and night. The heavenly luminaries had not yet been created, it was the Primordial Light.
Punk stage №1, which represents the first day of the world's creation
The first day is represented by just a few elements: it is a white background, and a small group of black figures. This is the separation of light and darkness. The background is white, because the light itself is unnatural, "primordial. Black is this darkness that has been separated, now it is no longer the only thing that was in the universe, that is, its place has changed and its role has fallen forever, because something absolutely beautiful and perfect is about to be created: life. It is the presence of the fragmented figures that symbolizes the angels and god that existed at that moment.
The Second Day
And God said: 'Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters'. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament, and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning.
Cima da Conegliano — God the Father , between the 15th and 16th centuries
On the second day the air space, the physical sky, was created. It is called "firmament" because in ancient times the firmament was often compared to a tent. Thus, a barrier was created between the earth, which was still under water, and the cosmos. Apparently, on the second day God created the atmosphere of our planet, protecting it from cosmic radiation. Thus, the existence of all life was assured. On this day the earth stood out as an object, although it was covered by water. However, it was on this day that life on it became possible. This day is indicated by red objects forming a circle. Because there was only water on the earth, there are no other colors on this circle. This absence symbolizes the unified structure of our world at that moment. The small red shapes are the relief of the original world. At the same moment, we changed the background at Punk - from white, symbolizing the Primordial Light, it changed to a slightly more yellow hue, showing the beginning of the creation of the world we are familiar with.
Punk stage №2, which represents the second day of the world's creation
On the second day of creation, a red circle surged into prominence at the heart of the unfolding universe - a symbol of the separation of the waters above from the waters below. This is the birth of the firmament, the space that would become our known universe. The red circle, intense and radiant, is a metaphor for this newly formed firmament, a symbol of new beginning and the great divide that formed the heavens and the Earth.
The Third Day
And God said: 'Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear.' And it was so. And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters called He Seas and God saw that it was good. And God said: 'Let the earth put forth grass, herb yielding seed, and fruit-tree bearing fruit after its kind, wherein is the seed thereof, upon the earth.' And it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, herb yielding seed after its kind, and tree bearing fruit, wherein is the seed thereof, after its kind and God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning.
Schnorr von Carolsfeld, Julius — The Third Day of Creation, 1860
On the third day, it was God's will that land and water be separated on earth. It was probably then that the planet Earth with its continents, islands, rivers, and oceans was finally formed. Also, the first form of life appeared on earth - various kinds of vegetation that could reproduce themselves. Thus a variety of organic life appeared. The creation of the plant world before the appearance of the celestial luminaries seems, at first glance, a contradiction: how could plants exist without the sun? However, this is an imaginary contradiction. As has already been said, there was a primordial light before the sun. The Sun was only bringing to maturity what had already been produced with the participation of the Primordial Light.

At this point, two groups of objects appeared at once. The first is the seas and oceans, which are surrounded by land. It is the water that is surrounded by the land, not the other way around. This was done to emphasize that the creation of man was on land, and the role it played in his life. The second is a cluster of brown-colored figures that resemble plants growing outward from the earth. The color was chosen to show that the plants were growing out of the soil.
The Fourth Day
The Fourth DayAnd God said: 'Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth.' And it was so. And God made the two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night and the stars. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness and God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning.
Michelangelo — The Creation of the Sun, Moon, and Plants, 1511
On this day the heavenly bodies were created: the sun, the moon, and the stars. They began to illuminate the earth. It was also possible to separate day from night, to measure days, months and years, to keep time. In Genesis, these celestial objects do not have names, they are only called "large and small luminaries. Such a description is intended to safeguard the human mind from the pagan deification of the sun and the moon. It was also intended to emphasize the centricity of the earth in the created world. Timekeeping was necessary for man to know when to offer a sacrifice and offer a prayer. In each day it is stated, "And God saw that it was good." These words express the idea that everything created by God is perfect and in harmony with each other.
Here we have added two "luminaries". The sun in the lower left corner and the moon in the upper left corner. For the image of the sun we have chosen exactly the same structure as for the earth (Punk's face). This was done intentionally in order to emphasize the similar nature of these bodies. The moon was depicted as a semi-circle, due to the fact that in the ancient works it was depicted mainly as a month, and in the circle indicated only the sun.

The Fifth Day
And God said: 'Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let fowl fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.' And God created the great sea-monsters, and every living creature that creepeth, wherewith the waters swarmed, after its kind, and every winged fowl after its kind and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying: 'Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.' And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.
Raphael — The Creation of the Animals, 1518 - 1519
The creation of the world continued with God creating different kinds of birds and fish. The Creator blessed them to multiply and fill the water and sky. A new, higher, animated form of life emerged that could move and feel. God created animals "by kind." Each species of creatures had its own succession of generations with the preservation of basic external features and the impossibility of transforming one species into a fundamentally different one. Based on the biblical concept of "genus," Carl Linnaeus created a classification of living organisms in the 18th century.
The living organisms of this day are added as numerous small figures of different shades both around and within the balloon. This is a division into fish and birds. The figures inside the ring are fish, which in human understanding live in a confined space. The objects that are on the surface are all birds that soar above the ground. We used different shades for these figures to emphasize the diversity of species.

The Sixth Day
And God said: 'Let the earth bring forth the living creature after its kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after its kind.' And it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after its kind, and the cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the ground after its kind and God saw that it was good. And God said: 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.' And God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him male and female created He them. And God blessed them and God said unto them: 'Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that creepeth upon the earth.' And God said: 'Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed--to you it shall be for food and to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is a living soul, [I have given] every green herb for food.' And it was so. And God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning.
Michelangelo — The Creation of Adam, 1512
On this day, God created the animals that lived on the land. They filled the earth, but the planet needed a higher creation, a man who could care for nature and be in communion with God. God created man out of the earth and breathed life into him. The Creator created him in His own likeness, intelligent and free, with an immortal soul. By this He elevated man above all previous creation. With the physical body we belong to the visible, material world. With the immortal soul we belong to the invisible, spiritual world. The main goal of human existence is to be in full harmony with God. But God created the world not only for human use. Contemplating the richness and beauty of the universe, man knows the power of the Creator, His wisdom and goodness, according to which He gave the world to man. The name of the first man is Adam, which translates as "taken from the earth. God placed Adam in the beautiful garden of Eden. But man needed a friend and helper. So God took one of Adam's ribs while he slept and created a woman from it, Eve, the mother of all people. The Creator commanded Adam and Eve to be fruitful and repopulate the earth. God honored man by bringing him into the world last, when everything was ready for him to exist. The earth, like a royal dwelling-place, was prepared beforehand and adorned for its Master. Thus, the creation of the world took place gradually, and nature, as if by steps, ascends from the smallest to the greatest. This is why we decided to break down the creation of our Punk into the same steps.
Finally a human being was added in the form of a "piece of the ring. However, this piece symbolizes the rib (from which the second man, Eve, was later created). It is made in brown to emphasize the nature of Adam, that he was literally created from the earth. And in general, man is connected with the earth throughout his life. It feeds him, giving him life, and it also buries him, giving him eternal rest. The last added element is the smoke cigarette. It is the result of human activity. Before this, everything created was created by God. But after men appeared on earth, the world began to change under their influence.
