God's eye
This Punk is inspired by CryptoPunk #2353 and artworks of Lisitsky. When we started to look for new sources of inspiration for a new Punk, a friend of ours invited us to an observatory where he works at. There we saw the true beauty of stars and space and heard stories about the earliest attempts of humans to conquer space. But despite all efforts, space is still quite a mystery for the humanity. After that we met and talked to several astronauts and they told us how they worked and lived in space. So this is how the idea for this Punk was born. We decided to show the loneliness of a man in space and the emptiness he sees being there. We tried to confront the typical image of a star sky with almost empty space. To enhance the feeling of helplessness we showed chains that confine humans, which will always hold us on the ground.
Large azimuthal telescope in Southern Russia
We decided to take the basic shapes from the exact telescope that we visited - the Large azimuthal telescope in Southern Russia of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences that was founded in 1966. It is located at the roots of Pastukhov Mountain in Karachay-Cherkessia and is equipped with two large telescopes: the optical BTA (Large Azimuthal Telescope) and the world's largest (by diameter of the ring antenna) radio telescope. The creation of this unique mirror lasted almost 10 years.
"Ocean" from Solaris, 1972 - an planetary organism that affects all characters in movie
The color palette was heavily influenced by A. Tarkovsky's film Solaris, 1972. In this movie Tarkovsky showed the interference of humans in the nature that is depicted in the so-called "Ocean" on a far planet. Such intervention led to many inexplicable phenomena and internal changes of a man. People were shown not as the ones who kept events under control. They were like tiny sandpipers against the backdrop of the uncontrollable nature of the Ocean.
To enhance the feeling of absence of fulcrum and to make the Punk seem more helpless and powerless in front of almighty but fully empty background we reduced the amount of elements. And after that we understood that the only thing that made him stable was his neck. That's why we removed his neck completely and left only chains. Quite a challenge was to choose his mouth. Since the motifs of the Punk were defined, the style for the mouth was picked so it highlighted his disability to speak and hence influence the events around.
