Death Confrontation
This Punk is inspired by CryptoPunk #281 and artworks of Puni. Punk reflects the essence of the Cold War.
The Cuban rocket crisis. Khrushchev and Kennedy. Caricature in the Western press.
The Cold War is the term used to describe the military, economic and political confrontation between two politico-military blocs led by the USSR and the US in the second half of the 20th century. The rivalry between the two superpowers was accompanied by an arms race, both conventional and nuclear, which periodically brought the world to the brink of World War III.
The Doomsday Clock
This rapid development of weapons and the creation of nuclear weapons capable of destroying all life on earth several times could lead to the annihilation of all mankind. The Punk's body also resembles a doomsday clock that shows the nearness of the end of mankind (The Doomsday Clock is a symbol that represents the likelihood of a man-made global catastrophe). This terrible outcome is reflected in Punk.
Soviet bunker
The background of the Punk resembles the bunkers that began to proliferate after the invention of nuclear weapons. In this bunker there is nothing but the Punk itself, hiding from the impact alone as all life is already destroyed. Apart from the bunker, the background resembles a coffin. The coffin as a symbol of where people go after death hints at what the next aggravation in international relations will lead to. The lines of the coffin going deep are meant to show its bottomlessness, which means that all humanity, without exception, will perish.
Malevich's suprematic coffin
Apart from the bunker, the background resembles a coffin. The coffin as a symbol of where people go after death hints at what the next aggravation in international relations will lead to. The lines of the coffin going deep are meant to show its bottomlessness, which means that all humanity, without exception, will perish. The founder of the movement Malevich, in the style of which all Punks are made, was buried in a special coffin which was made in the style of Suprematism. We also put the outlines of this coffin in the background.
The impersonality of the Punk also alludes to this, saying that the consequences of the war will affect people from all over the world and representatives of all opposing systems. Also important in the confrontation was ideology - communism and capitalism clashed for world hegemony. The red overlay on the upper half-circle is traditionally dedicated to the communist ideas of the USSR, while the blue underlay on the lower half-circle refers to the democratic capitalist systems of the United States and Europe. You can notice that both the background and the body of the Punk are in cold shades, which refers to the coldness of relations between countries at that time, as well as to the name of the war. At the same time, we can see that the Punk is mostly of the same colour and so its parts have areas of contact/overlap. This shows that the differences between the opposing countries are only in shades and not in substance. The Punk's white colour originally stood for people's desire to live peacefully and without war, but the Punk is tainted with other colours (it's kind of dirty) symbolising different competing ideologies which make peace and friendly coexistence impossible. Since Punk reflects two systems, it is itself made in a combination of two artistic styles. Suprematist outlines and coffin lines are combined with the futuristic structure of the Punk.
