8-bit-cubism
This Punk is inspired by CryptoPunk #1303 and artworks of Popova. This Punk is a reinterpretation of Cubism in an eight-bit world. To create the Punk was based on the CryptoPunk image and the structure of creating eight-bit images. We chose medium gray tones with the addition of a neopalitanic yellow hue to highlight the lighter areas. As a result, we got an image of Punk as if it had been taken apart and reassembled, putting inappropriate parts next to each other. In order to match the zeitgeist, we intentionally created a vertical effect by highlighting the right and left edges in black. This move brightens up the borders by contrasting the tonalities and results in a height difference effect - as Punk's borders are highlighted in a darker tone, while it is lighter on the inside. In contrast to the usual cubistic clutter of borders, we intentionally made them rectangular, adding a pixel effect to the work. For this Punk, we chose the work of Lyubov Popov, which we took as the basis - she was one of the first, who in turn combined two styles: Cubism and Futurism, and also worked with the theory of Suprematism and participated in the organization of the Supremus Society.
Lyubov Popova — Man, air, space, 1913
Lyubov Popova — The lady with the guitar, 1915
In the early years of her artistic career, Popova experimented a lot with different styles, traveling to Russian cities, studying ancient Russian painting, and getting acquainted with the works of contemporary artists. As a result, since 1913, in its work is its own style, combining diverse directions. It is a question of cubism and futurism - the styles, which did not converge in many of their principles. In Russia, they have merged into Russian Cubo-Futurism, which is a composition of cones, cylinders and similar colored shapes, which are often intricately connected to each other. It is interesting that Popova worked with sketches without the help of a circular and ruler and at the same time showed the highest skill in constructing a composition of three-dimensional forms on the plane. The paintings "Man + Air + Space" and "Composition with Figures" are considered the best examples of this period. Critics have noted that her creations in the style of Cubo-Futurism can easily compete with the works of Malevich.
