Severity
This Punk is inspired by CryptoPunk #8888 and the he work of avant-garde artists of the first half of the 20th century, including Ivan Kliun, Jean Arp.
First, let us analyze Punk itself, its composition, its colorism, and its geometry. The background of this work is heterogeneous: gray-brown stripes transition into blue-purple, and the sense of these transitions is created by the shimmering of light, as if we were looking at this work live, and the main source of light is natural diffused light. These cool shades are repeated in several parts of SupremePunk, such as the floor rectangle or the horizontal stripe. Hollow and painted shapes also echo in this work. Let's say the aforementioned rectangle is repeated twice in a white painted shape. The same can be seen in the rusty yellow circle and its white hollow mini replica in the upper right corner of the canvas.
Ivan Klyun — Composition with Three Centres, 1932
In addition, this SupremePunk features a large number of oblong stripes, ranging from short orange, to endlessly long vertical white and quietly horizontal brown. This Punk has some parallels to the work of the Soviet avant-garde artist Ivan Kliun, Composition with Three Centers. Of course, coloristically, this composition is most similar to the one in the upper right corner: similar orange, maroon, and brown-gray figures. You can also notice that the blurry purple circle and the vertical and horizontal lines protruding in front of it are similar to the mini-composition created by the white hollow circle and several thin stripes in the upper right.
Jean Arp — Abstract Composition, 1915
The affinity of this SupremePunk with the early paintings of Jean Arp is reflected in the dominance of the plane over the volume, despite the use of such aids as textiles and wood. Both Punk and Jean Arp's works do not reflect reality as we perceive it. Because what we see, hear, and feel are but vague shadows of a higher essence, an ideal reality. Artists try to break out of the boundaries of ordinary perception and experience something sublime that cannot be described by human language and conceptual toolkit.
